Sinfonietta de Lausanne

Sinfonietta de Lausanne

In Lausanne, the Sinfonietta combines the drive of a professional orchestra with careful attention to young instrumentalists. Founded in 1981 by Jean-Marc Grob, this variable‑sized ensemble was built around a dual ambition: to explore a wide repertoire and to prepare new generations for orchestral practice.

Its transmission mission takes concrete form in its partnership with the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne. The agreement signed in 2021 allows students and graduates to take part in concerts, gain professional experience and become familiar with collective work. Each season the Sinfonietta offers around forty performances, including a subscription series, and develops projects with regional institutions, choirs and festivals.

After Alexander Mayer, music director from 2013 to 2017, then David Reiland from 2017 to 2026, Lucie Leguay took over the musical direction at the start of the 2026–2027 season. The orchestra thus continues a project in which artistic curiosity, education and engagement with audiences advance together.
