Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra

The Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra continues the Festival’s educational spirit through a high-level practice shared among former colleagues. Founded in 2005 as a chamber ensemble derived from the Festival orchestra, it brings together musicians who passed through its orchestral programme and are now engaged in leading ensembles around the world.

As the Verbier Festival’s resident orchestra, the VFCO returns each summer to the landscapes and audiences that accompanied its birth. Gábor Takács-Nagy was appointed its Music Director in 2007; guest conductors and soloists join this collective venture. Its flexible lineup allows it to tackle chamber repertoire and to take its music beyond Verbier.

Its first recorded project, made with Maxim Vengerov in 2006, was followed by a tour of twenty-two concerts in North America and Europe. Since 2008, the ensemble has held an autumn residency at Schloss Elmau in Bavaria. Tours, recordings and summer engagements make the VFCO a community of musicians committed to listening together.
