OPRL invites you inside the orchestra with Virtual Hall®
In Liège, Virtual Hall® lets you experience The Sorcerer’s Apprentice among the 80 musicians of the OPRL. A 360° experience conducted by Lionel Bringuier, now available online.
Don’t just watch the orchestra: step into the music
In Liège, the concert takes on a new perspective. With “Orchestra Immersion”, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liège (OPRL) invites audiences to discover The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas, not from an auditorium seat but from among the orchestra’s sections.
Conducted by Lionel Bringuier, this performance was recorded at the Salle Philharmonique de Liège. Ten 360° cameras were positioned among the 80 musicians assembled for the recording. For twelve minutes, listeners choose their place in the orchestra and discover the gestures, glances and exchanges that bring the work to life.
A deeply human immersion
This is not a recreated orchestra: these are real artists, a genuine performance and the energy of a concert recorded on stage. The technology brings audiences closer to the musicians without replacing the encounter in the concert hall.
Produced with Cybel’Art, developer of Virtual Hall®, the project extends the approach begun with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande: opening symphonic music to new audiences, as close as possible to those who bring it to life.
Music beyond the concert hall
The OPRL plans to roll out a travelling fleet of ten headsets from January 2027, with priority given to hospital settings. Schools and residential care homes are also among the audiences being considered.
The Web 360° version is already available on desktop, tablet and smartphone. Choose your point of view and let the proximity of the orchestra’s sections surprise you.
