Virtual Hall® at HUG: a musical interlude during dialysis
At the Geneva University Hospitals, Virtual Hall® allows dialysis patients to discover the OSR from within the orchestra. Medinside presents this cultural initiative in its article of 12 October 2026.
The concert comes to meet the patients
When you cannot go to a concert, music can come to you. In an article published on 12 October 2026, Medinside highlights an initiative by the Geneva University Hospitals (Hôpitaux universitaires de Genève, HUG) and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (OSR): offering Virtual Hall® to people cared for at the dialysis centre.
Eight virtual reality sessions are planned this autumn. During a treatment that occupies patients for several hours, they open a cultural parenthesis: discovering an OSR concert recorded at the Victoria Hall, from inside the orchestra.
Another place to listen
With a virtual reality headset, the listener can look around and choose their viewpoint, close to the musicians or facing the conductor. The capture of real performers preserves what gives a concert its power: gestures, mutual listening and the emotion of collective playing.
Born from an initiative of the OSR and developed by Cybel’Art, Virtual Hall® thus widens the routes of access to music. At HUG, this discovery is part of ArtHUG, the programme that makes room for art and culture within the hospital. A cultural mediation proposal, without promise of therapeutic effect.
