Benjamin Britten (1913–1976)

Coming soon! A concert recorded with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande at Victoria Hall in Geneva. The immersive experience will be added to Virtual Hall® soon.

Duration: to be confirmed

What if every instrument had its say? Taking a theme by Purcell, Britten lets the orchestra introduce itself, family by family, then brings all its voices together in a resplendent fugue. An invitation to recognize timbres, whatever your age.

Britten conceived this work for the educational film Instruments of the Orchestra (1946). The theme that passes from section to section comes from a piece of incidental music by Henry Purcell: two English composers separated by almost three centuries meet within the same orchestra.
