A cuckoo, a rattle, a toy drum: playthings mingle with the strings, and the orchestra allows itself a smile. Traditionally attributed to Leopold Mozart, this three-movement symphony turns every noise into a musical surprise. Its authorship remains debated.
Who really wrote this symphony? It has been attributed to several composers, including Leopold Mozart and Joseph Haydn; research also points to the cleric Edmund Angerer. The mystery does nothing to diminish the pleasure of hearing the bird calls and toys converse with the strings.
